BOOKS

Diamond hands. Crypto. Bitcoin. Dogecoin. To the moon!!! It’s a whole new financial world with a bunch of goofy jargon and catchphrases and it’s cool and interesting and confusing… You also might be thinking: “what the hell is all this stuff and where did it come from?” I have the perfect book for you from the author of The Social Network, Ben Mezrich.

Yes, I mentioned this book in a newsletter when it first came out, but we’ve got a thousand new followers and several have asked if there were any good books on bitcoin and since we aim to please at Books & Biceps, I highly recommend Bitcoin Billionaires: A True Story of Genius, Betrayal and Redemption.

Billionaires is a sequel of sorts to The Accidental Billionaires (the book that became The Social Network), except this time instead of using Mark Zuckerberg as the main character, Mezrich follows the Winklevoss twins’ life after being portrayed as rich, elitist villains in Social Network.

How does this tie in with bitcoin? Easy. For much of the mid-2010s, the Winkelvii spent a majority of their time and money buying massive positions in bitcoin, believing that it will be the currency of the future and that they had miraculously stumbled on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…again.

The book covers their chase, the oddball techies and crypto dorks who helped them navigate this uncharted territory and it’s the best bite-sized storytelling version of the rise of bitcoin I’ve read.

PS – If you’d like someone to break down the latest concepts of crypto, the future of finance, Bitcoin, Ether, meme stocks and everything else, I highly recommend you follow @SahilBloom on Twitter. He’s got a gift for concise storytelling and deconstructing tough concepts into threads my 3rd grader would understand if he ever put down his Nintendo Switch.

BICEPS

One of the things we pride ourselves on here at B&B is creating workouts tied (sometimes very loosely tied) to the reading recommendations in the newsletter. If you remember one about the Winklevoss twins from the movie it’s that they’re 6’5”, 220lbs and they row crew.

Rowing is one of the best total body workouts around…arms, legs, back, core, cardio…it has it all.

If you have access to a rower at home or a gym, give this workout a try from my old pals at Men’s Fitness:

  • Warm-up: 1-minute light rowing at 18 Strokes Per Minute (SPM)

  • Interval 1: 10 seconds light rowing then 20 seconds hard rowing 8 times.

  • Then, this circuit: 250m row + 25 squat jumps.

  • Interval 2: 15 seconds light rowing then 30 seconds hard rowing 8 times.

  • Cooldown: 3-minutes light rowing followed by stretching your glutes, hamstrings and quads.

If you don’t have a rower (the one thing missing in my garage gym, AKA, the Flex Factory) I created this workout that can be done at home with a set of dumbbells. It mimics a lot of the movements in rowing without, you know, a rower:

5 Rounds of 10 Reps Per Exercise

Bodyweight Squats

Right Leg Split Squat

Left Leg Split Squat

Push-Ups

Dumbbell Rows on a Bench Each Arm

Upright Dumbbell Rows

Now you’re ready for the Regatta

QUICK FLEXES
