💪Finkel's Fast Five 138 - September 18, 2020
Welcome to Finkel's Fast Five #138. Thanks for reading and subscribing! ONE STRENGTH - One of my all-time favorite go-to lifting routines is the tried-and-true 5x5 pioneered by former Mr. Universe and lifting legend, Reg Park. Once a year, usually around football season, I return to the 5x5 for three months because it lets me know where I've gotten stronger, or gone soft (not possible) during the year. It's extremely simple and extremely effective. But you move heavy weight with big compound movements. And it gets heavier every week. Onnit did a great write-up on how to follow the program for gains. Here it is.
TWO
WRITING - If you're of the mind that Almost Famous is a nearly perfect movie, and that Cameron Crowe wrote a nearly perfect script (because it was based on his life) then this is for you. Rolling Stone magazine asked Crowe if he'd do a video tour of whatever archives he has from Almost Famous and also talk about the real stories from his life that were in the movie and...it's...just about the coolest thing you'll watch. Yes, it's about the 'movie', but it's really about his start as a writer, which is even more compelling. Watch it here.
THREE
INSPIRATION - If you're reading this then it's likely that Remember the Titans is one of your favorite sports movies. Do you remember Louie Lastick from the movie? Lastick was the super overweight white kid who could sing. If you know the movie, you know him. Well... The actor who played Lastic, Ethan Suplee, has lost well over a hundred pounds and is unrecognizable right now. And not because he's so skinny. But because the dude is so JACKED! Love to see when someone completely and totally transforms their body for the better. Here he is now. (he's on the left)
FOUR
BOOKS - Football season is upon us and there was a sports book that I'd always wanted to read that I never got around to... So I decided to finally buy it and tackle it and... It's great. It's called Boys Will Be Boys by Jeff Pearlman and it's everything you want to know about the 90s Cowboys dynasty...and I mean everything... this team was an R-rated/X-rated juggernaut. As dominant as they were on the field, they were even more relentless partiers off of it. Add in the Jerry Jones/Jimmy Johnson stuff and the great stories from the NFL at that time, and you'll really enjoy this read. I got the paperback.
