NEW BOOK ANNOUNCEMENT

I know, I know... Me, Durant, the Glove, the King of the Fourth... That’s a hell of a crew, I agree... But that’s who I’ve been working with for most of 2020 on my new book, Hoops Heist: Seattle, the Sonics & How a Stolen Team’s Legacy Gave Rise to the NBA’s Secret Empire. This one’s big. Huge. Enormous.

And there are so many reasons why.

This is the first book published by 2x NBA All-Star, entrepreneur, motivator and creator (and one of my favorite Celtics ever), Isaiah Thomas and his company, Slow Grind Media. I love the passion and enthusiasm for storytelling that Isaiah and his Slow Grind partner TJ have across all platforms: documentaries, podcasts, social media and of course books.  This is a story that was begging to be told and it could only be told the right way by getting buy-in from all the legendary hoopers from the Seattle area…  The guys who played for the Sonics like Payton and Detlef Schrempf and Durant and Coach George Karl… and the NBA guys who grew up in Seattle’s basketball culture: Doug Christie, Jason Terry, Jamal Crawford, Brandon Roy, Nate Robinson and Isaiah Thomas himself.

These men are all legends from the Pacific Northwest and as you’ll read in the book, they’ve created a basketball brotherhood unlike anything else in the NBA or even in college.

The second reason I’m so pumped about this book is for the story itself. From Bill Russell to Lenny Wilkens and “Downtown” Freddie Brown to “The Wizard” Gus Williams and Slick Watts and Jack Sikma, to the X-Man, Payton, Kemp, Schrempf and George Karl up to Kevin Durant, we run the gamut of what Seattle looked like before the Sonics arrived and how one team ignited the sports passion in an entire region of the country… And then, of course, the heartbreak that was left behind when the team was stolen from them (yes, it was stolen in broad daylight).

I poured everything I had into this book and so did all the Washington icons who were generous with their time and ideas and thoughts.
